gBurner is a free software utility that allows you to create up to 16 virtual CD/DVD drives to mount disc image files so that you can use them as if they were the real CD/DVD discs. The program supports a wide variety of disc image formats including ISO, BIN/CUE, ASHDISC (by Ashampoo), CDI, NRG (by Nero), DMG (by Apple Mac), IMG, BWI, to mention some. Mounting and unmounting an image file can be done in no time, with just a couple of clicks.

The program doesn't include a "conventional" user interface, and it only installs an icon in your system notification area. From its menu you can configure the number of available virtual drives, mount or unmount a specific one, and open the configuration window. It, in turn, allows you to enable or disable the "autostart" and "automount" features, and also you can assign a specific drive letter to any of the 16 supported virtual drives. When you select the "Mount Image File to Drive" command in the program's menu, you just need to select your disc image file and, a couple of seconds later, your system behaves just as if you had inserted the real disc.

As you can see, using gBurner Virtual Drive is extremely easy and simple, and allows you to mount practically any disc image file. Once it is mounted, you can use it at a much higher speed and in a more reliable way than if you used the real disc. Best of all, you can use this tool totally free of charge. The only feature I consider it lacks to be perfect is the capability of backing up your burned CDs/DVDs into disc image files you could mount later.
